In the last few seasons, since making his Super 12 debut for the Sharks in 2003, Botha has established himself as one of the best hookers in the Southern Hemisphere. Unfortunately he, like all the other hookers in South Africa, has to play in the shadow of Bok captain John Smit, but those in the know say that only injury will keep the skilful Botha from the World Cup in France. Having played flank earlier in his career Botha is very mobile and strong with the ball in hand.
